One of the most common questions we get at Russell Room Remodelers is: “How long is this going to take?”
It’s an important question, and the honest answer is: It depends.
Every remodeling project is unique, and while we can offer general estimates based on experience, it’s important to know that timelines can shift, often for good reasons. Whether it’s weather, product availability, permit delays, or just the natural complexities of remodeling, it’s normal for projects to run longer than expected.
The hard part is acknowledging right up front that we can’t give you a fantasy deadline. We just want to set realistic expectations so you can feel confident and informed from day one.
The Bigger the Project, the Longer the Timeline
Remodeling timelines are largely proportional to the size and complexity of the work being done. For example:
- Small Bathroom Remodel: ~6-8 weeks
- Medium Kitchen Remodel: ~8-12 weeks
- Room Addition or Large Renovation: ~3-6 months
- Whole-Home Remodel: Several months or more
Again, these are ballpark estimates, not guarantees. Kitchens generally take longer than bathrooms because they tend to be physically larger. Additions and whole-home projects require more coordination and complicated engineering for multiple rooms.
There’s Work to Do Before the Work Begins
It also helps to think of a remodel in phases. We start with a meeting to collaborate, where you tell us from a bird’s-eye view about your project and vision. This consultation is on us at no cost to you, something that not every remodeler offers. Once that’s done, we will present a detailed scope of the project that includes a rendering of your new space along with a price range. Signing a planning agreement with a modest fee sets the rest in motion, along with a site visit with our trade partners to see what they will be working with. As we prepare with more planning, we will guide you to make selections and pick a design you love with a goal of creating a fixed price contract just for you.
After you love what we have planned and sign a contract with us, we begin the pre-construction phase, which typically takes about 4–6 weeks. This is when we take your design choices and order specific materials, plan with subcontractors, and pull permits. None of this is visible construction, but it’s a critical step to keep the build process moving efficiently once it starts.
The Production Phase: When the Dust (and Progress) Begins
Once we start physical construction (what we call the production phase) the estimated timelines kick in. A medium-sized project, like a kitchen or large bathroom, typically takes about two months from demo to finish. Smaller projects are often shorter, and bigger projects can stretch over several months. But keep in mind that we provide a schedule curated for your project specifically that you can follow along with on our project management site.
Still, it’s important to remember: even the best-planned projects can experience delays. Shipping issues, change orders, weather, or the occasional surprise inside a wall can all add time. That’s why we build flexibility into our planning and keep you updated every step of the way.
Planning Helps, But Flexibility Matters
No one wants to hear that their project might take longer than expected, but we’d rather be honest and transparent than promise a finish date we can’t meet. At Russell Room Remodelers, we approach every remodel with care, precision, and a realistic timeline that reflects your project’s unique scope.
