Woodbury
This Woodbury, Minnesota homeowner was ready to update their dated kitchen. The space still featured the classic golden oak cabinets and laminate countertops typical of the 1980s, along with a built-in desk area that took up valuable kitchen real estate.
While the homeowner wanted to keep the overall layout mostly the same, they had two key goals: eliminate the desk area and rethink the appliance placement for better functionality. We replaced the desk with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, providing much-needed pantry-style storage and giving the kitchen a more streamlined look. The biggest challenge was reworking the cooking zone. The original setup had a cooktop in the island and a double oven in the perimeter cabinets, which wasn’t ideal for how the homeowner used the space. To improve this, we removed the double ovens and relocated the refrigerator to that spot. This allowed us to install a traditional range and hood vent on the wall where the refrigerator once stood, creating a more practical and visually balanced kitchen layout.
For the finishes, the perimeter cabinets were painted in Nimbus, a soft gray with a matte finish, while the island features a contrasting sage green tone that brings warmth and personality to the space. The light veining in the quartz countertops ties everything together beautifully, complementing both cabinet colors. The backsplash is Tribeca Gypsum white porcelain tile, which adds subtle texture and a clean, modern look.
