About the Project

The unfinished basement in this 1950’s St. Paul home left much to be desired, however, the potential was there and we are always willing to take on any challenge a home may present to us. Speaking of challenges, this project did not disappoint!

One such challenge being the low ceiling height and how to address this without losing more headroom. In the end, we decided the best option was to sheetrock the ceiling and leave the vents exposed. Choosing to paint everything at the ceiling the same color as the walls gave the impression of height while also resulting in a brighter and more open feel – a far cry from where we started.

Another, more significant, challenge that we faced was having to relocate the existing plumbing rough-ins to fit within our proposed design while also meeting all code requirements. By doing so, we were able to create a spacious ¾ bathroom complete with a custom tile walk-in shower.

This finished basement also includes a sizable laundry room with additional cabinet storage, and a cozy living room area with plush carpet and an electric fireplace, adding an extra layer of warmth. Working within the existing footprint, we were able to maximize the limited amount of square footage to give the homeowners a beautiful basement they can now look forward to spending time in.
