One of the first questions many homeowners ask when planning a renovation is:
“Can I live in my home during the remodel?” It’s a great question, and the answer is usually “Yes.” At Russell Room Remodelers, we specialize in working around your life, your budget, and your space. We understand that moving out during a remodel isn’t always practical or affordable. That’s why we plan every project with the goal of keeping you as comfortable and informed as possible throughout the process.
As a family-owned company, we approach remodeling with a people-first mindset. We’ve worked with families with small children, retirees, remote workers, and everyone in between. We tailor our schedule and setup to meet your needs. That means keeping job sites tidy, containing dust and debris, and sticking to a predictable workday.
What to Expect While Living at Home
Our crews typically work during standard business hours, usually 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Friday. If you work outside the home, we’ll often just be getting started as you leave for the day, and wrapping up right as you return. For many clients, that makes the process surprisingly smooth and unobtrusive.
Many of our clients enjoy seeing the transformation happen in real time. Some even find it fascinating to observe the craftsmanship and decision-making that goes into every part of the process.
We always aim to keep noise and disruption to a minimum, and we’re happy to communicate about any especially loud or messy days in advance so you can plan accordingly.
Kitchens and Other Major Spaces: What to Know
While we do everything we can to work around your lifestyle, some remodels will temporarily put key areas of your home out of commission. The most common example? A kitchen remodel.
When we remodel a kitchen, you won’t be able to use the space for almost the entire project. Appliances will be disconnected, countertops and cabinetry will be removed, and the area will be off-limits for safety and efficiency. But that doesn’t mean you’re out of options. It just means we’ll help you plan ahead.
Some clients choose to set up a temporary kitchen in a laundry room, basement, or spare room. Others shift to simple, no-cook meals like salads, sandwiches, or slow-cooker recipes. And yes, takeout is always a solid backup plan during kitchen construction. We’ll walk through your options and help you create a strategy that fits your lifestyle and budget.
If your project involves a bathroom remodel and you only have one full bath, that may also require extra planning. We’ll be honest and upfront about what kind of access you’ll have and when, so you can decide whether staying home still makes sense.
Clean, Safe, and Respectful
Living through a remodel doesn’t have to mean living in chaos. Our team is committed to maintaining a clean and organized worksite. We use protective coverings, set up dust barriers, and clean up daily so that your living space stays livable. We treat your home with the same care and respect we’d expect in our own.
We also believe in regular communication. From the very first planning meeting to the final walkthrough, we’ll keep you updated on timelines, what’s happening next, and what to expect along the way. We aim to eliminate any surprises along the way, so our goal is to have clear expectations and open dialogue from start to finish.
Let’s Make It Work Together
At the end of the day, we believe your remodel should feel exciting, not overwhelming. Whether you’re remodeling a kitchen, bathroom, or basement, we’re here to make the process as smooth and livable as possible.
Every project is different, and so is every family. If you want to live at home during your remodel, we’ll do everything we can to make that work. And if moving out for a short time ends up being the better option, we’ll help you plan that, too.
